More than 9 people have died after being packed into a baking tractor-trailer parked outside a Walmart in the midsummer Texas heat. The authorities have indicated on Sunday that victims were involved in immigrant-smuggling. At least 20 of them were rescued and hospitalized due to very critical conditions, and the driver of tractor-trailer was also arrested. Officials have indicated that most victims had experienced severe heatstroke and dehydration. The Police Chief of San Antonio William McManus called it a horrific tragedy and said that we are looking at a human-trafficking crime. On Sunday, one of the U.S official said that at least 17 of them were rescued and treated for injuries that were considered life-threatening.
The official also informed The Associated Press that information regarding the incident hasn’t yet announced publicly. Point to be noted that San Antonio authorities were called to the Walmart parking lot on Saturday night or early on Sunday and they discovered 8 people dead inside the truck. At least 9 other victims were died at the hospital. The spokeswoman for the U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Liz Johnson said that the victims were very hot to the touch and these people were in the trailer without any type of water. The authorities are unable to mention whether the trailer was locked when they arrived, but confirmed there wasn’t any kind of working air conditioning system inside the truck. It has been considered the latest smuggling-by-truck operation and ended with a horrible tragedy.
