A Video Showing a Giant Squid found on a Beach in New Zealand
A video circulated for years on the internet supposedly showing a giant squid (50 feet long) found on a beach. It has again created another attracting story on social medial websites in the month of November 2016. The attached description of this video pointed out that squid was found on 1st March 2015 at a beach in Punakaiki, New Zealand. We have found that image provided in this specific video was altered and the showing scene wasn’t captured or not taken from a beach in the New Zealand. The original photograph was showing a crowd of people at a beach around a huge whale, but not squid. The image was captured in the month of June 2012, an image of whale in White Rock, British Columbia, Canada (at least 12 thousand kilometer away from New Zealand).
The residents of White Rock gathered at the beach in order to help huge whale to send it into the water. Their efforts had become worthless because they struggled at least 45 minutes, but whale died and their entire efforts became effortless. The huge whale was alive when it was discovered on the beach, but the condition of animal was weak and unstable. The published image of the “Giant Squid” was generated by altering the original photograph and replaced the image of whale with the image of squid. The website snopes.com has provided both (the original and altered) images for comparison. It is not the first time that a captured image of whale on a beach used for hoaxes such as the giant squid found on a beach. Another image of a whale was also circulated online in the month of January 2014 supposedly showing a similar claim, but none of those stories were true.
