Test Period for Self-Driving Vehicles has Started in the New York State

The Empire State and its active & busy metropolis are strengthening to get in on the self-governing vehicle party. The Governor Andrew Cuomo has made an announcement that the Motor Vehicle Department of New York is now receiving applications from various companies need to test their self-driving technology on the public roads of the State. The New York is joining Arizona, California and Nevada, but didn’t mention the city of Portland in welcoming self-driving cars to its roads. Point to be noted that the authorities of the State will strictly regulate the vehicles. The test period was approved last month and it has been considered a part of the state budget and its period will be expired within a year on 1^st April 2018.

The companies such as Uber, GM and Waymo will need to cover their each self-driving vehicle with an insurance policy of 5 million U.S dollars and it has been considered a usual set of DMV inspections and safety standards. These tests will keep a driver behind the wheel at all times and recover state police for costs linked with examining the tests. These vehicles will also be avoided to travel from navigating near construction areas and school. The New York Police Superintendent George P. Beach said in a statement that the State Police will welcome any latest and advanced technology in improving safety on roadways in decreasing the road accidents and injuries. Any kind of new technology regardless of how innovative should need to be tested & evaluated properly. The State Police will monitor the entire process in order to ensure the effectiveness.
