A large number of people lined up for getting inside a rally during first political event since the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia. After the deadly demonstrations in Virginia, the Phoenix leaders were on a high alert. Point to be noted that last week U.S president made comments for both sides and blamed the white supremacist rally for deadly violence in Virginia. Mayor Greg Stanton also alerted the U.S president for not to conduct the rally in Phoenix so soon after the violence in Charlottesville. The protests were peaceful outside the Phoenix Convention Center and police engaged the protesters and Trump supporters on opposite sides of the street.
But, police was unable to stop them from shouting at each other, so some minor fighting incidents happened. Some protesters and Trump supporters used offensive language and pushed each others. State Democratic leaders backed people who needed to show their anger against the policies of U.S president Trump. State Democratic Party Chair Alexis Temeron and other leaders also joined peaceful protests. They gathered at the designated free speech zone near the Phoenix Convention Center rally. A message was delivered by Stanton and law enforcement for protesters. Stanton said that he is expecting protesters to be “peaceful, civil and respectful”. Police Chief Jeri Williams also said that 1st Amendment rights might be supported, but protesters will not be allowed to conduct any type of criminal and offensive activity.
