Impeachment Vote amid Major Allegations and Charges against Trump
The U.S House of Representatives started debating impeachment articles designed against the U.S President Donald Trump. The articles alleged Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of the U.S Congress. Trump will likely to become the 3rd U.S President in American history to be impeached by the U.S Congress amid the lengthy debate on Wednesday afternoon. It is noteworthy that the impeachment inquiry was initiated after a whistleblower complaint regarding Trump’s call with Ukraine on 25th July. The U.S President was alleged of demanding political investigations against his political rival Joe Biden (one of his political rivals) and his son Hunter Biden. Key impeachment witnesses described a quid pro quo to House investigators involving U.S-Ukraine relations under Trump. They said Trump was expecting announcements from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about investigations into the former vice president and his son.
The House Intelligence Committee released at least a 300-page report of its findings from the impeachment inquiry before the House Judiciary Committee. So, the Committee started considering articles of impeachment against the U.S President. The report directly implicated Trump in his administration’s apparent demands for political investigations from Ukraine to aid in his re-election. The director of investigations at the House Intelligence Committee said in a statement, “The report found Trump’s persistent and continuing effort to coerce a foreign country to help him cheat to win an election. It is a clear and present danger to our free and fair elections and to our national security”.
Point to be noted that the White House effectively served as a roadblock throughout the House-led impeachment inquiry into Trump’s dealings with Ukraine. Trump has now become the first and the only president in American history to openly and indiscriminately defy congressional oversight powers in an impeachment inquiry. Trump administration instructed both current and former officials who worked in the White House had first-hand knowledge of both the president’s phone call and his dealings with Ukraine. The issue of the White House ordering officials not to comply with congressional subpoenas resulted in a lawsuit and even some defections, including from Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman. So, the House speaker suggested a vote on the impeachment articles against Trump.
