US President Donald Trump has decided to postpone the G7 Summit meeting until the twilight. His decision came just a day after German chancellor Angela Merkel said she would not attend unless the course of the coronavirus epidemic changed. Trump made the unexpected announcement aboard Air Force One on his way back to Washington DC from Florida. He watched the Nasa SpaceX launch. President said the membership of the group should include Russia, Australia, South Korea, and India. He said the current makeup of the group is very outdated and doesn’t properly represent what’s going on in the world.

Trump said he hadn’t yet set a new date for the meeting, but suggested the gathering could take place in the month of September or after the 2020 US election in November. Point to be noted that it might be the time of the annual meeting of the United Nations in New York. The surprise announcement of Trump came after German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s office said she would not attend the meeting unless the course of the coronavirus pandemic. The leaders of the major economies in the world were slated to meet in June 2020 at Camp David in the United States, but the COVID-19 outbreak has disturbed most plans.

It is noteworthy that Trump announced in March he was canceling the summit due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He also stressed that the world leaders would confer by video conference instead. But Trump then switched course and said a week ago that he was again planning to host an in-person meeting. The seven G7 group members are Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US. President Trump tweeted and said, “Now that our Country is Transitioning back to Greatness, I am considering rescheduling the G-7, on the same or similar date, in Washington, D.C., at the legendary Camp David. The other members are also beginning their COMEBACK. It would be a great sign to all – normalization”!
