Listen to this articleUS President Donald Trump has declared victory and called a Democratic war on the American energy industry. He was confronting polls while visiting a Texas oil rig and predicted that he will win the state in November as he once again turned an official trip into a mini-campaign rally. Trump said during his visit to Midland, Texas, “As long as I’m president we will never allow anyone to put American energy out of business, which is what they want to do. We unlocked the full energy potential of Texas and New Mexico. We have become a net energy exporter”. President Trump has announced export authorizations for the US melted down natural gas will be extended well into the future, through 2050. He said, “That seems like a long time”, and claimed that his administration is also safeguarding the environment.
President Trump also touted 800,000 new energy jobs contended his administration created across the country before the coronavirus recession kicked in, and one-third of those were in Texas. He criticized Democrats and attempted once again to link his presumptive general election foe, former Vice President Joe Biden, to the Democratic Party’s progressive wing and Green New Deal. He alleged Democrats of proposing to wipe out jobs. Trump said, “I don’t think Biden is going to do too well in Texas. Democrats want to leave every city at the mercy of the radical left”. President was in the Lone Star State where some polls showing him trailing Biden in a state that has been a GOP stronghold since 1976.
It is noteworthy that President Trump might not capture a 2nd term if Biden won the state’s whopping haul of 38 Electoral College votes. The non-partisan Cook Political Report lists the state as lean Republican. The report says, “There is evidence that Texas is very much in play at the presidential level”. Point to be noted that Trump took the state by 9% points in 2016 over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. But, Biden currently leads the incumbent there 47% to 45% less than 100 days from election day. President said in Midland on Wednesday morning, “We will defend the Lone Star State. I love this state”. Trump hosted a campaign fundraiser in Odessa before arriving in Midland. The event was expected to raise $7 million for the Republican National Committee and Trump’s campaign via the Trump Victory Organization.
