Listen to this articleUS President Donald Trump’s press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany has denied there has been any discussion of pardons for the president’s family. She insisted she hadn’t heard any White House conversations regarding pardons except for former national security advisor Michael Flynn. Point to be noted that NBC News reported that the outgoing president has been involved in conversations about preemptively pardoning family members and close associates. The New York Times also reported that Trump has reportedly discussed pardons for his 3 eldest children (Eric, Donald Jr., and Ivanka), Jared Kushner, and Rudy Giuliani. McEnany said, “I have heard no mention of any pardons in any conversations I have had in the White House other than the pardon of Lieutenant General Michael Flynn”.
McEnany added, “He had his life ruined, he was a valiant hero who served his country on the battlefield then came to work in government. What happened to him was that there was an FBI note that said they wanted to get him to lie, there then was a criminal leak of his identity and a phone call he had, he was told no lawyers were needed in the discussion the FBI was having with him”. FBI investigators then said afterward they did not think he was lying yet he was still pursued in an unjust manner. Last week, President Trump gave Flynn a full pardon in spite of the fact he twice pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI. The president commuted the prison sentence of former campaign aide Roger Stone in July.
Stone was convicted of obstructing the congressional investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. President Trump reportedly suggested during a White House Christmas party that he would consider regaining the presidency in 2024 if his long-shot bid to hold onto power despite losing the 2020 election to President-elect Joe Biden. He made remarks on Tuesday night during the festive gathering attended by Republican Party officials. However, speculation regarding Trump attempting a comeback by running in 2024 has swirled since Biden’s victory became apparent last month. It is noteworthy that President Trump had not previously publicly addressed the possibility of another run. He told the White House audience and said, “It’s been amazing 4-years. We are trying to do another four years. Otherwise, I’ll see you in four years”.
