Listen to this articleThe US Federal Investigation Agency issued a statement that US Marshals in Phoenix shot and killed an escaper on Friday evening, wanted in California on murder and rape charges. The escaper died during an exchange of gunfire with members of the US Marshals Service task force near Sky Harbor International Airport. Surrounding roads were closed off during the incident. The Marshals Service issued a statement and said, “A handgun was produced and the suspect fired multiple rounds at law enforcement when task force members tried to arrest the suspect. Task Force members returned fire, striking the suspect”. The statement said the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene and nobody else was injured.
However, the authorities didn’t release the escaper’s identity. The Marshals Service said the person killed was sought on a California warrant alleging parole violation in a case involving violent assault and rape and also was wanted in Los Angeles for a gruesome murder that occurred earlier this month. Point to be noted that an 8-year-old boy was also shot and killed at an apartment complex in southwest Atlanta on Saturday night. The police department said the child was rushed to the hospital for treatment after officers were called around 10:15 p.m., but he died as a result of his wound.
The authorities said that homicide detectives are currently investigating the incident. Police officials said it’s still unclear what led to the shooting, but it may have been an accident. Lt. Ralph Woolfolk informed a news outlet and said, “It’s still very early in this investigation. It’s a very unfortunate incident in which we know a minor child did expire as a result of the injuries. It is noteworthy that there have been at least 647 shootings throughout Atlanta this year and marks an 18% increase over the same time period in 2020.
