Most Americans will undoubtedly wear red, blue, and white on Independence Day. But some of them have planned to wear black on July 4 to show their disappointment. They will show their dissatisfaction with the state of the union and their commitment to a more disengaged America. Activists motivated their followers 2 years ago to wear black to support Black, Brown, and native communities.
Some people are wearing black clothes to outcry against the nullification of Roe v. Wade this Monday, July 4. People were also found wearing black on the holiday in 2020 to respond to racism and police cruelty in the US. Former NBA player Stephen Jackson (a friend of police-killing victim George Floyd) shared an Instagram post at that time.
People Wearing Black to Present Black Lives Matter
Jackson said we aren’t wearing red, blue, and white on this 4th of July, instead of wearing all black. Independence Day is another Black Out day and we are together. He said to pass this on to the entire world because Black Lives Matter. KGW of Seattle reported that actor and activist Derek Green also informed followers to wear black on Independence Day.
Derek said in an Instagram video that no one has participated in this celebration or holiday except white people. It’s used as a time to make more isolation in a lot of areas of the country. It would create a grading of Americanism where White people are at the top and considered true Americans. They don’t consider Black, Brown, and native people as Americans.
Activists Called to Wear Black on 4th July
Derek said in his video to celebrate and wear all black. Avoid wearing the flag colors due to it could become a symbol of hate. Only wear black to show our commitment under a different symbol. We are Americans and can present our concerns around this special day. Derek informed KGW that Americans will not reject the suffering and pain level our people are experiencing in the country.
He added that stand up to mistreats and autocrats to those people that were not involved in any wrongdoing. The authorities are holding them responsible for any reason for what they allegedly performed. So, it is our main objective about what we are doing. We will wear black because we are claiming they are responsible for their wrongdoing acts.
Females Wearing Black to Honor Abortion Rights
It is noteworthy that a large number of Americans are now wearing black on this 4th of July protest. Moreover, 11 Alive in Atlanta reported that people are wearing black on Independence Day to protest a shortage of freedom for women. The US Supreme Court reversed Roe v. Wade as it offered federal protection to abortion rights.
Baylie Berke informed the news outlet that he thinks it is obviously essential for us to take a stand immediately. Our stand for this extraordinary crisis in human rights will show resistance in a perfect way. Various Twitter users also spoke similar statements on the social platform. One Twitter user said who is calling the 4th of July the Independence Day this year? He is wearing black in sorrow.
Another Twitter user also shared his feelings and said it is his right to choose to honor the deaths. Our honor is for all the females who die from abortions. He said that he will wear black on the 4th of July Independence Day. So, you now know why females wear black if you see them wearing black on this special day on July 4.
