Australia will close its Papua New Guinea Detention Center
The Australian government has officially declared to close a contentious offshore detainment facility used to accommodate people looking for asylum. This facility was located at rocky Manus Island in Papua New Guinea and it was considered one of two offshore detainment facilities to which Australian government sends asylum finders reaching at facilities by boat. The Australian government will not allow them into the country whether they are in real need of asylum. Point to be noted that the facility at Papua New Guinea was found illegal by the Australian court in 2016. The decision of Australian Supreme Court was made for both asylum seekers and refugees because their freedom of movement is second-string.
The Australian Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said that any detainee will not be resettled in Australia and the ruling will not change the border protection policies of Australia. The Australian Parliament also indicated that the asylum seekers are unlawful and they are not Australian citizens. Most of the Australian detention population contains unauthorized boat arrivals, some visa over-stayers and many other illegal non-Australian citizens. It is important that at least 900 men are housed in the facility of Manus Island and there are many in other detention centers at on and off mainland in Australia. Such as an Iranian journalist Behroz Bochani has been detained since 2013 looking asylum in Australia at the facility of Manus Island. He claimed for an investigation on 17th August 2016.
