In the month of April 2016, public debates started on a wide range regarding the bathroom use for transgender. Those debates were due to the fire eating segment of HB 2 also known as “bathroom bill” in North Carolina. The Target issued a statement on 19th April 2016 and confirmed a new policy regarding the bathrooms usage for transgender customers. Point to be noted that debates regarding the bathrooms were not new in the month of April 2016, but it had been considered the highest legislation profile according to its nature which activated a massive response across the country. Some misinformation circulated regarding the development in the law making, but Target was not considered the first big and famous entity in clarifying its policy regarding the use of transgender bathroom.

Another website “The Political Insider” also reported that an under pressure statement was released by the President Barak Obama and the LGBT groups.  When we tried to find out about the authenticity of this news, we found that there is not any kind of claim that Target was pressurized by anyone about their chain-wide policy. Any retailer of the similar size didn’t report any kind of organized pressure to ratify similar policies. It was confirmed that Target accepted that a chain-wide policy is permitting transgender customers to use the public bathrooms by showing their gender identity. But, it was not true that Target had made a decision after a pressure on the chain by the U.S President Barak Obama or the LGBT groups.
