The U.S President Donald Trump has complained the Prime Minister of Denmark was Nasty and Not Nice when she publicly rejected his unsolicited idea to buy Greenland. On Wednesday, Trump informed reporters on the White House lawn, “It was not a nice way of doing it. She could’ve just said, ‘no we’d rather not do it”. The Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen had forcefully revoked the idea of the U.S buying Greenland. Some news surrounded that Trump had asked aides regarding such a purchase. Trump later confirmed publicly that he thought the idea was interesting. He repeatedly shared a meme on Twitter with one of his hotels superimposed near a Greenland village.

Frederiksen said, “Greenland is not for sale. Greenland is not Danish. Greenland belongs to Greenland”. She informed the newspaper Sermitsiaq and said, “I strongly hope that is not meant seriously”. She added that the conversations were an absurd discussion. Trump announced on Twitter after those comments that he would skip a planned meeting with Frederiksen. He said he made the choice after she said, “she would have no interest in discussing the purchase of Greenland”. Frederiksen said on Wednesday in response that she received the news he was skipping the meeting with regret and surprise, and that she had been looking forward to the visit. It is noteworthy that Greenland is an autonomous Danish territory with limited self-government with its own parliamentary system. The United States has attempted to purchase the island in the past but didn’t move forward.
