Microsoft and Kawasaki Teamed Up in Making HoloLens and Robots

Listen to this article

On Tuesday, Microsoft announced that Kawasaki is now one of its potential customers for the industrial metaverse of the company. The industrial metaverse is a factory and its workers wear a HoloLens headset to boost production and supply chain management. But Kawasaki will now use the headsets to manufacture robots.

Moreover, HoloLens was released in 2016 to provide an opportunity to experience AR (augmented reality). It overlapped with digital images in a real-world territory. The industrial metaverse of Microsoft is implementing the entire technologies of the company. It includes cloud computing to support workers and managers to develop products at boosted rate.

Metaverse is Aimed at Establishing Digital Twin

This exclusive metaverse is designed to establish a digital twin of a workspace of Microsoft. It would provide a significant boost in processes including creating and repairing new manufacturing platforms. HoloLens utilizes chat with workers and assists them through the repair process. Microsoft said the digital twin can accelerate new manufacturing if the company experiences a supply chain problem.

However, Kawasaki is combining the earlier announced Heinz. It would implement the Microsoft industrial metaverse in Boeing and ketchup factories. A large number of Microsoft customers have earlier requested the company to establish the concept of the metaverse. The corporate vice president of mixed reality for Microsoft, Jessica Hawk issued a statement.

The Industrial Metaverse to Overcome Supply Chain Issue

Jessica Hawk said the industrial metaverse is an indication of the opportunities of technology prior to becoming entirely immersive. These companies are dealing with real-world problems. So, the implementation of tech solutions would provide help to overcome the supply chain issues. However, the metaverse application of Microsoft is more interesting.

Moreover, the potential of virtual reality is linked with a sci-fi future and everyone is playing and socializing digitally. The company is now presenting an example of its application in the production of businesses. However, Microsoft has already started measures against Meta since the company is selling mixed reality technology to companies.

Metaverse Products Can Work on 2D Screens

The new tech is enabling developers to build their own metaverse experiences. Hawk said there is a difference in the strategy of the company including multiple devices and platforms. It clearly indicates the metaverse products of Microsoft can also work on 2D screens. It includes new features for Microsoft Teams chat app to allow users to appear as digital avatars.

Meanwhile, these features will be available in the company’s headsets in the near future. The company has stopped making struggles with the HoloLens 3 AR headsets. Microsoft is supposedly focused on presenting software instead of hardware. Multiple reports have indicated that one of the major problems is the shortage of direction from the tech giant.

Microsoft Plans to Officially Stop HoloLens 3

A news outlet reported that Microsoft has officially stopped its plan to release HoloLens 3. Moreover, one source related to the matter said Microsoft could officially cancel the HoloLens hardware. The US government has awarded contracts to Microsoft in the development based on the HoloLens technology.

This tech is also called the IVAS (Integrated Visual Augmentation System). Microsoft has focused on building software for the metaverse. Other companies will use it for their AR and MR headsets. The company also announced a partnership with Samsung to create hardware-capable software. Moreover, Qualcomm also announced working with Microsoft to develop chips for AR headsets.
