Listen to this articleUS President Donald Trump has criticized the former US President Ronald Reagan’s foundation for asking him to stop using the former president’s name and image to raise funds. He posted comments on Twitter and called-out the foundation’s chairman over demands that the Trump campaign and Republican National Committee stop raising money with Reagan’s name and image. President Trump informed the foundation’s chairman and The Washington Post CEO, Frederick J Ryan Jr. that he would win anyway in November, without the paper’s support. He wrote in his tweet, “So the Washington Post is running the Reagan Foundation, and RINO Paul Ryan is on the Board of Fox, which has been terrible. We will win anyway, even with the phony Fox News suppression polls (which have been seriously wrong for 5 years)”!
It is noteworthy that the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute’s complaint came after the 40th US president’s name and image were used to sell commemorative Reagan-Trump coins. The foundation’s chief marketing officer, Melissa Giller informed The Washington Post columnist Karen Tumulty that the RNC had agreed within seconds to stop using Regan’s name. Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh informed The New York Post that the Reagan foundation’s demands were no surprise. Murtaugh said, “It should be no surprise that the publisher and CEO of the Washington Post want to interfere with President Trump’s re-election campaign. As Republicans, we all honor Ronald Reagan’s contribution to this country and our party”.
Point to be noted that Trump has continued attacks on unsupportive US media outlets as his poll numbers slide against Democrat Joe Biden. President Trump has previously invoked Reagan. It includes the apparent repurposing of Reagan’s 1980 campaign slogan, “Let’s make America great again”. Moreover, the first lady Melania Trump was criticized for going ahead with a White House Rose Garden renovation project while the country remains in the grip of a number of national crises. On Monday, the White House announced in a press conference that the first lady’s plans for a significant renewal of the garden. The project will include improvements for audiovisual and broadcasting needs, more accessible features in line with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and a healthier environment for plantings.
