A blog post of former engineer of Uber blew up online made more than just shame due to the company into final investigation for her long-time ignored sexual harassment allegations. It has been forced the ride-sharing service in taking a look into its diversity numbers. In an earlier memo forwarded to employees, the CEO of Uber, Travis Kalanick had indicated that he and the new Chief HR Officer, Liane Hornsey are working hard on publishing the first diversity report of the company in the next couple of months. It is important that the diversity reports are very common in the technology industry and it has been considred norm for Uber because the company is still a private individual.
This decision was supposed to be made in response to part of the post of Susan Fowler (former engineer of the ride-sharing) and it indicated about the gender balance issues of the service. She also indicated that “out of over 150 engineers in the teams (reliability engineers), just 3% were women. The CEO of Uber insisted in his memo that gender balance issues of Uber weren’t considered too bad. He added that at least 15% of the employees in the company are women. He referenced that Google has 18%, Facebook has 17% and Twitter has just 10% women employees in their companies. Kalanick also indicated about the ongoing investigation. It is important that the former U.S Attorney General Eric Holder and other partners at his law firm will manage an independent review into the specific issues regarding the work place environment.
