Nuclear power might be welcomed by some countries such as UK and China, but Switzerland is going in the other direction. The country has recently voted in the favor of a supposed energy plan that will ultimately eliminate any type of nuclear power use, so they are shifting their efforts toward renewable sources such as wind and solar. But, there isn’t any exact time frame for the nuclear shutdown, but it has been chosen using a binding referendum. It is expected that efforts might get underway in the month of January 2018 and you will be able to hear more details. Some opposed the plan and indicated that it would raise costs while decreasing access to reliable power. They also said that solar panels need a large amount of area and wind farm might defame the natural Swiss landscape.

Why Switzerland is closing its Nuclear Power Program?

It will not leave a tremendous impact on the local safety or environment, especially not in the short term by allowing for decommissioning a nuclear reactor facilitating for decades. It basically reflects a significant amount of change in attitudes. This idea was first proposed in 2011 by the Swiss government as a response to the Fukushima nuclear disaster. But, some previous years have witnessed a change in the attitude toward renewable energy sources. They have used it to be a relatively expensive & rare, but it is now affordable and it has become a primary choice for most. Just Switzerland shouldn’t be considered the one having a reason to ditch nuclear power.
