People around the world have experienced that their app has turned black without changing the settings when they opened Instagram. Most of them were found asking about a recent unexpected switch from the white background. Some users have complained that the darker mode makes it harder to read the captions. However, people can change their dark mode if Instagram has automatically changed it.

The unexpected change is reportedly connected to the most recent update. Last month, CEO Adam Mosseri said Instagram is testing a modified home screen. The recent update automatically switches the background and turns it black by increasing the size of posts. However, the dark mode features a 9:16 ratio to make the app video-friendly and more appealing.

Mosseri also explained that the platform is moving to Instagram to present the video as a major part of the home screen. The platform is offering more entrance content to take up more of the screen. The major part of the feed is recommendations. He said the company has now started experimenting and testing both photos and videos to occupy more of your screen.

Change your Instagram Background Color

Users of an iPhone aren’t currently able to change their Instagram’s background color within the app itself. However, it mirrors users’ device settings and they will get a white background if their iPhone is in light mode. Users will experience a black background if it was already in dark mode.

They must check their phone display and brightness settings to set a dark or light mode. Keep in mind that Instagram will still appear black if your iPhone is in light mode. There is currently no way to fix the issue and users need to contact Instagram via Twitter.

Android Users can Change their Theme Settings

However, Android phone users are now able to change the settings within the Instagram app. They should click on their profile picture at the bottom right. Users then click 3 horizontal bars at the top right of the screen. They will find an option of light and dark mode after clicking Settings and then Theme.

A news outlet Nationworld also reported that Instagram is experiencing some key modifications in making the platform user-friendly and attractive. The app has presented a dramatic change to its background as most users experienced their profiles in dark mode. Most Instagram users found their background turned black without changing the settings when they logged in.

Instagram Previously Presented a New Brighter Icon

Android and iOS users choose whether to turn their background black or white. The recent change is connected to the latest update. It is noteworthy that Instagram will appear white if your app is set to light mode. The app will show black background if your device is set on a dark mode theme. Go to Settings, Display & Brightness, Light or Dark mode option to find the selected theme.

Meanwhile, posts for some users are now appearing on full screen as the platform offers a display with a 9:16 ratio. The social platform slowly presented other changes since May 2020. It includes a new brighter icon with the signature color elevation of the app. The dark mode of Instagram offers a more attractive darker palette to view images and videos.
