Looking to get away from it all? You can’t get much farther away than the Kareri Lake Trek. It might be the best decision you ever make, and you’ll have plenty of time to decide that while you’re on your relaxing hike through the Himalayas. Trekking in Dharamshala doesn’t get any better than this. Whether this will be your first trek or your fortieth, you’re going to love every minute of this fantastic vacation destination.

Kareri Lake

Why Choose Kareri Lake?

Kareri Lake is a scenic trek in the Himalayan region of Himachal Pradesh, India. The lake rests in a valley amidst lofty snow-capped mountains. It is one of the easiest treks in the area and can be done with relative ease by those with an average level of fitness. The lake itself is stunningly beautiful with clear blue waters and plenty of opportunities for photography.

When to Go on this Trek?

July to September is the best time to go. The weather is perfect for trekking and the days are bright and warm. The downside is that the monsoon season starts in June, so this trek can get a little wet. Nevertheless, it’s the most popular time because of the clear blue skies and lush greenery in Dharamshala.

How Long will it Take?

When you are looking for a quick getaway that is both serene and invigorating, then a day at the lake may be just what you need. Here is what to expect when you go on this trek.

After meeting in McLeod Ganj, we will drive to a small village called Kareri. There we will stop at an inn to have breakfast before our hike begins. We will then head up the mountain, following a stream until we reach the lake. Along the way, there are some points of interest such as waterfalls and caves to explore so keep your eyes open! The hike should take about four hours total but it can be done in two or three depending on how fast you go.

What are My Accommodation Options?

Accommodation options range from homestays to hotels. Homestays are a good option if you want to see the traditional way of living in the mountains. You’ll be taken care of by a family and will get to experience their daily life as well. If you’re looking for something more luxurious, then stay in one of the many hotels at Dharamshala or in Mcleodganj.

What Kind of Experience Should I Expect?

Kareri Lake is situated at the foothills of the Dhauladhar range in Himachal Pradesh. The lake offers a beautiful view of the snow-covered ranges and is surrounded by pine, oak and fir trees. The lake is also a popular picnic spot during summer. One can visit kareri from delhi place during winter as well to enjoy the snow-capped peaks.

Trekkers should be mentally prepared for trekking in this region because of its high altitude, which will make it slightly difficult for them to breathe or talk. If you’re an amateur trekker, we recommend that you do not attempt to climb directly up to Kareri Lake but instead follow the trail around it clockwise.

What Should I Pack?

  • Most importantly, pack clothes that can endure the changeable weather conditions that come with being in the mountains.
  • Pack comfortable shoes to hike in and dress shoes for special occasions.
  • Pack a variety of clothing to accommodate different temperatures.
  • Bring your favorite snacks and drinks.
