Tillerson Highlighted new Washington Strategy for South Asia

On Wednesday, the U.S Secretary of State Rex Tillerson made a visit to India and met his counterpart. He highlighted the new strategy of Trump administration for South Asia. The Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj said that India had shown its willingness to conduct dialogues about Afghanistan with Washington and Kabul. The U.S Secretary of State has arrived in New Delhi after his visit to Kabul and Islamabad. Tillerson said that he delivered the message of Washington to Pakistani leaders that the Trump administration is looking to control terrorist groups operating from its territory. He also said that various terrorist groups had found a secure place in Pakistan to launch attacks. Tillerson conducted discussions with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Foreign Minister Khwaja Muhammad Asif on Tuesday.

Tillerson also met with the heads of the Pak army and intelligence services. The U.S officials have long blamed Pakistan for turning a blind eye or aiding the Afghan Taliban and the allied Haqqani network. India also blamed its neighbor that its intelligence is supporting terrorist groups that have launched several attacks inside the Indian Territory, including a 3-day attack in 2008 in the Indian capital Mumbai. More than 166 people were killed during this attack when 10 militants rampaged through parts of the city. India also blamed Pakistan for providing aid and training to rebels operating in the Himalayan region of Kashmir. Point to be noted that Kashmir is divided between the two countries but both sides claimed. Tillerson said that the existence of such terrorist groups on Pakistani territory also a threat to the stability of Pakistan.
