The top infectious disease White House official said the number of Americans who could get sick or die from the coronavirus. So, U.S government should implement an aggressive response to save Americans. The director of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Anthony Fauci informed the House Oversight and Reform Committee that Trump administration officials cannot predict a number of Americans who will contract the novel virus because it is still crafting and putting in place its response. Fauci warned legislators against sitting back and getting complacent. He said, “It is going to be totally dependent on how we respond to it. I can’t give you a realistic number”.
Fauci said it could be many, many millions Americans if the federal response is not accurate. He said an aggressive response could allow federal, state, and local governments to contain it. His remarks were the latest contradictory ones from a Trump administration official. Fauci contradicted himself all the week and said on television interviews that federal officials have most past a containment-based strategy to one focused on mitigation. He said, “We do not know what this virus will do”. The top infectious disease official said scientists typically would assume such a virus would dissipate as temperatures warm. But he said officials and experts not know much about the coronavirus to make the conclusion.
He also added, “We have to assume, it’s going to get worse and worse and worse. I can say we will see more cases and things will get worse than they are right now”. Point to be noted that Trump administration officials have yet to clearly explain just what that means, and how that might affect the lives of those in the United States. Fauci said the entire country must get much more serious regarding the coronavirus. But, the director of CDC (U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), Robert Redfield said there is an 85% recovery rate among known cases in the United States.
