U.S President Donald Trump expressed concern over vows made by Tom Steyer and Michael Bloomberg. Both said they’ll donate to any Democratic Party challenger. On Sunday morning, Trump told both billionaires that they were laughed at & mocked by their 2020 Democrat rivals. Trump attempted to drive a wedge between the billionaires’ deep pockets and the Democratic Party after Steyer dropped out of the presidential race on Saturday amid a poor performance in the South Carolina primary. It is noteworthy that Bloomberg and Steyer are the top 2 spenders in the campaign. The former New York City mayor dropped at least a half-billion U.S dollars of his own money into media ads since entering the race 4 months ago.

Point to be noted that Steyer alone spent at least $22 million in advertising in South Carolina. He shelled out around $250 million in the wider campaign. Trump tweeted on Sunday morning and said, “I would find it hard to believe that failed presidential candidates Tom Steyer, or Mini Mike Bloomberg. It would contribute to the Democrat Party, even against me, after the way they have been treated, laughed at & mocked. The real politicians ate them up and spit them out”! He added, “Tom Steyer who, other than Mini Mike Bloomberg, spent more dollars for NOTHING than any candidate in history, quit the race today proclaiming how thrilled he was to be a part of the Democrat Clown Show. Go away Tom and save whatever little money you have left”!

The comments of Donald Trump reflect the criticisms many Democrats themselves have made regarding a presidential primary process. It forces candidates with similar platforms to ridicule each other for months before suddenly all falling in line behind one candidate after the July convention. Steyer responded and said, “Donald, I’m prepared to do whatever it takes to beat you and save our democracy”. Bloomberg’s campaign announced the billionaire media mogul pledged to put at least $1 billion behind any Democratic challenger to Trump in the month of January 2020.
