On Sunday, a White House adviser Peter Navarro has moderated the termination of the inspector general of the US State Department in a TV appearance. He said that those who aren’t loyal to the Trump administration must go. Point to be noted that Steve Linick has become the 4th inspector general Donald Trump has fired in just 2-months, following his acquittal by the Republican-controlled Senate in his impeachment trial. The director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy, Navarro said, “We’ve had tremendous problems with, some people call it the ‘Deep State.’ And I think that’s apt. So I don’t mourn the loss. There’s a bureaucracy out there. And there’s a lot of people in that bureaucracy who think they got elected president and not Donald J. Trump”.
The administration of President Trump has long believed in a Deep State conspiracy theory that frames competent, non-political, career bureaucrats serving their country by undertaking the requirements of their positions, as working to undermine the president. Democrats launched an investigation into Trump’s late-night firing of Linick. It was the latest pattern of firing watchdogs that he views as a threat to his presidency. It is noteworthy that the President terminated a top coronavirus watchdog, Glenn Fine. He was to oversee the financial relief response of the federal government to the Covid-19 pandemic. Trump also fired the inspector general of the US Intelligence Community; Michael Atkinson (he played a role in triggering the impeachment investigation).
The 3rd termination from the President was Christi Grimm. She led the Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General. Grimm was also fired after he alleged her of having produced a Fake Dossier on American hospitals suffering shortages on the frontlines of the novel coronavirus outburst. It is important that Navarro is one of Trump’s most ardent supporters and mounted a vigorous defense of the Trump administration for the handling of the coronavirus pandemic. He also tied together Barack Obama, Joe Biden, the state of the economy, and coronavirus pandemic.
