You will find an ease to see if your K-12 public school is closing down due to expected bad weather during a couple of weeks. The Director of Communications for the Alabama State Department of Education, Dr. Michael Sibley said that they will go live on 1st Feb 2018 to announce a new online notification system. Sibley discussed the new system on 11th Jan with the Alabama Board of Education. He said that the new system will allow an ease to the media and public in accessing the entire information at one place and one place. So, it is worthless to discuss about what is open and closed within the State. He said that the local administrators or their representatives will be able to submit information directly into the website of State Department.
Sibley added that it will allow the public to find whether schools are temporarily closed or lockdown. The local school district officials will be able to take decision regarding closing or opening. But, it will not replace any kind of existing local notification system that is still being used by the local officials. It will make easier for parents and officials in finding updated information. This online system will provide an easy access to school officials in order to complete that request of an “excuse” from opening school. This excuse can be permitted by the state administrator after declaring a state of emergency by the Governor. So, the State Governor Kay Ivey has issued warning for the expected bad winter weather during coming weeks.
