Listen to this articleThe U.S Justice Department has announced, the newly appointed attorney general from Donald Trump will not rescue himself from oversight of Robert Mueller‘s investigation into alleged Russian collusion with the 2016 presidential campaign. A spokeswoman Kerri Kupec said on Tuesday that Trump officials advised William Barr against the step and Barr made a decision consistent with that advice. Barr has tried to allay fears raised by Democrats that he might disrupt Mueller’s work. He downplayed a memo he sent to the Justice Department and White House lawyers during his confirmation hearing in January. He criticized the investigation for its presumed inquiries into whether Trump had obstructed justice.
Barr also informed senators that it was in the public interest for Mueller to complete his investigation. He said that he needed to release as much information as possible regarding it to the U.S Congress and the public. Mueller will provide a confidential report Barr under the U.S Justice Department guidelines. It explains his decisions to pursue or decline prosecutions. Barr will then prepare his own report for release to the U.S Congress. He has said he designed to share some information with the public, though it isn’t clear whether Mueller’s actual report will ever be made public.
The former FBI director James Comey was terminated by Trump and it is among the events being investigated by the special counsel’s office. The Washington Post provided detailed information on Monday regarding a completed investigation of intense public interest has long been a part of Justice Department practice. Comey wrote, “Every American should want a Justice Department guided first and always by the public interest. Sometimes transparency is not a hard call”. Trump had publicly mocked and ultimately fired his first attorney general, Jeff Sessions for rescuing himself from Mueller’s investigation due to his work with the Trump campaign.
